Whirl Mini Quilt
Made this for the TMQG Not Really President's Challenge.
We each picked up a magazine from the stack that the presidents brought in and tore off page 25.
Our challenge was to make a mini quilt inspired by the page.
I don't have the page any more but it has a lot of browns and blues and I don't normally work with those colours. Then I realized that Carolyn Friedlander's Doe would fit the bill. Also included the yellow fabric from her Botanics line.
So I decided to make my Whirl Quilt block in a mini. I designed this one as a paper piecing pattern since each flying geese block would be 3" X 1.5" and I have trouble keeping those geese straight with a 6" block!
The mini quilt is a 12" square.
I didn't quite finish it before the deadline and didn't make it to that meeting so it was never entered into the challenge. But I now have a little table topper in my living room. :)

Sketching Quilting Stitches
I need to get quilting!
Right now this is how I'm planning to quilt Prince Charming.
Will use white for the negative spaces and I might match the colors for the coral and lime.
I did the sketch in Inkscape with my Wacom Intuos. It's a great way to figure the quilting out! Of course you won't get the actual scale but the design can be easily worked out.

London Calling
Judy brought these back for me from Spring Market earlier this year.
They're gorgeous aren't they?
This is London Calling from Robert Kaufman
Think I'll make a Plus Quilt with these. :)

Mug Rug
This was an improv block I turned into a mug rug. I like the quilting on this. I think I'm going to use those wavy lines when I quilt my Improv Quilt.

Basting Animal Maze
Perks to working at a quilt store! I can baste on tables!
This is Animal Maze for my little nephew.
I love mazes and think it's nice to combine a maze into an I Spy kind of quilt.
I designed this. First on graph paper - then on the an excel sheet so I could keep track of what I was cutting and what colors I was using. I did have a hard time figuring out the color of the maze. I wanted it to stand out and there are so many colors in this quilt! Decided on Kona Chinese Red.
All kinds of fun is to be had with this one! :)

Lesson in Garment Sewing
We both brought in a shirt and Arianne drew up a pattern and taught us how to make it!
I haven't finished mine yet but Emily got hers done and it looked good!
Sewing garments is fairly complicated and laborious.
I think I might just stick to quilting for now! ;)

Improv Quilt - WIP
Spent last Saturday sewing with Sarah (in the picture). I was working on another project but asked her to hold this one up for the picture. I usually have to ask the husband but I think I need some new quilt models. :)
I think I'm moving out of my bright color phase now. Moving towards softer colors and a lot of blues, aquas, and teals. We'll see where that goes!

Quilt Store visit in Leesburg Virginia
We visited family over Christmas and this very nice quilt store/sewing studio in the historic downtown of Leesburg. It's a beautiful, well curated store and they have a whole bunch of classes for quilting, knitting, sewing and crafting.
I bought a fat quarter bundle of Elizabeth Olwen's Wildwood. Was happy to buy something from a Toronto based designer! :)

I'm so glad I joined the Toronto Modern Quilt Guild this year! I've been wanting to for about 2 years now and this year I decided I would do it! I enjoy going to the meetings and getting to know other quilters and talking about quilting. It's wonderful!
See more about the Toronto Modern Quilt Guild and if you're in Toronto you should definitely check us out!

QAYG Selvage Block
I made a selvage block a little while ago. You can see it here: Some Selvage Fun
I wanted to make some more. I guess this is also called a String Block?
Anyway - here's how I made these.

Improv Piecing with Scraps
I was working on my Eastern Sunrise Quilt Top and sewed up some of the scraps. I think it's nice to have an improv scrap project as you work on your main one. You get scraps sewn up then and there without storing bins of them for later, all the colors work together lready, and you have interesting shapes that also work together.
