Soft Hexies - W.I.P update

I've been working on my hexies while we binge watch Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones! You can tell how many hours are spent watching the shows by how big the quilt has grown! :)

I'm happy with the progress and I should be able to call the top done soon!

It'll be a baby quilt and I think I'm going to hand quilt this one.

Quilting by the Lake!

I would have if it wasn't so cold and wet! :) But I took some pictures with my hexie quilt by the water. We went up to a cottage with some friends earlier this month and I took some sewing up. It was wonderful to sit by a wood fire stove and sew with good friends and wine. :) Had a lovely time. If we go up again I want to have some finished quilts to photograph.

Getting the Hexies together

I started this quilt for the store. We made kits for each of the flowers. I've started putting some of them together. I think its going to be a fun quilt. 

Grandmother's Flower Garden

I started making hexies about a month or so ago. You can see the post on that here.
I was urged to start because Judy offered me a free quilt if I would make a store sample of The Grandmother's Flower Quilt. I was hesitant at first because I haven't done much hand sewing in the past and was not sure how it would all turn out... especially if it was going to be a store sample!

Anyway... after a quick lesson I was hooked and I think my hand sewing is not so bad either. :)

We're making Grandmother's Flower Garden Kits in 1930's Reproduction Fabrics and Brights. And I'm doing the brights. They are the cutest kits. I almost want to buy them just so I can get my hexie papers and squares in a pretty package!

I'm thread basting but there's this neat new Bohin Glue Stick that I want to try out.

We're releasing two a week so there will be more of this. I'm thinking of going with a Kona White and doing hexagons all around for the background. What do you think?

Hooked on Hexies!

I've always wanted to make hexagons but didn't because it involved sewing by hand. I wanted to sew by hand but believed that my hand sewing was rather awful and so stayed away from it.

Last week Judy asked me if I would make a Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt as part of a project for the store. Yes I did hesitate but said I would. Judy gave me a lesson one Friday afternoon and now I can't stop making them! I love it! :)

We're using paper templates for the hexagons. I will let you know about the store project once we announce it but till then... here are my practice blocks. I didn't think my very first blocks would look good but don't they? So this will have to be a quilt too.

Now I sew on the train to work! Good fun.
