I used to look at tutorials of Dresden Plates and think, "Some day I'm going to make one"... and I always put it off 'coz I thought it would be too difficult.
But here we are! :)This Beginner Hand Quilting Class with Jeannie has really made a lot of things so much simpler. Right now I'm working on the applique block - again something I have not done before - but it's going great! I am very inspired. Yaay! :)
We used freezer paper to make the circle and I have to say that I was a little daunted by having to cut the back and take the freezer paper out and everything.... but it was a breeze. Another note to self - don't write off something before you've given it a shot and definately don't spend hours stressing about it either!
Got my Tumbling Blocks all done and appliqued onto the background. Really like the way they turned out!

looking good!the swirled fabric is fantastic for the center of your dresden {a block I have yet to try}
ReplyDeleteThank you allison. It really is quite simple when you get down to it. makes me feel all grown up! :)
DeleteBoth those blocks are beautiful Carol.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanette.
DeleteOk, you've convinved me....I look at the dresden plate in fear! Did you do it all by hand? Is that what you mean by hand quilting? How did you get the centre so round, because even when I use freezer paper, my circles are warped :(. I really like your colours in both blocks!
ReplyDeleteI thought it would take me years to make one... maybe the curved ends still would.... but it's really quite simple. Yes all hand pieced. The class is called quilting making by hand... so its all worked out the traditional way - templates, scissor cutting and hand sewing. great fun.
Deletewell... this is how jeannie showed us... when you turn your quarter inch over onto the freezer paper and glue it down... you glue a little bit... leave a gap and glue a little bit more and then come back and glue the gap that you left. that doesn't give you the pointy bits.
I'm going to make more freezer paper circles... I'll take some pictures.
Beautiful work, and pretty fabrics!
