I have been quilting like a crazy person! My family was down to visit and I had to get the quilts for my neice and nephew done before they arrived. Even though the tops have been in the making for a while now, with not having a sewing machine and sewing on Saturdays at the store, I only had about a week to border one quilt, piece the back and quilt both quilts. It's was bloody madness! And ofcourse, my wrists gave me endless trouble, it was sooooo hot, and I had to take over the dining table for a week.
I am happy to say that at the end of it, I finished the quilts and gave it to them on the day they arrived, and they loved it. :)
This one was for my niece. I started the top in a Beginner Machine Quilting class at the store. I have to say I really enjoyed the class and Jeannie Jenkins is a great teacher. I made the quilt larger than the lap size we were making in the class.

Straight line quilting in the negative space. The lines are approximately 1/4 of an inch apart or maybe a hair more. It was a looooot of work and especially since I had to get it done in a week... which really meant 5 hours every evening since I was at work for the rest of the time. I didn't cook. I didn't clean... I didn't talk to my husband... I sewed and sewed and sewed! :)
I love the result even thought there was a lot of starting and stopping and thread cutting and snipping. Put my automatic thread cutter to good use on my new Janome.
This one was for my 8 year old nephew who apparently also has a skull and crossbone bathrobe! :) So this works out nicely for him.

ReplyDeleteThank You Sara.
DeleteWow, they are both awesome. And yes, that 1/4 inch quilting is very time consuming, but the results are well worth it. Hope they love their quilts!
ReplyDeleteThank You Jeanette. They did love them.
DeleteI am in love with the quilt you made for your niece. The straight-line quilting turned out fantastic on it. :)
ReplyDeleteThank You :) I was really happy with it too. Almost wanted to keep it!
DeleteLove both of these - especially your pretty fabrics and the dense quilting in the top one!
