Aren't Partial Seams the Best?!

I learned how to partial seam somewhere in the beginning of 2012 and it's a great technique. If you haven't tried it you should give it a go. It's so simple to do and it allows you to do more with your quilt blocks. I learned how to do it from a post on About.Com! You can see it here: Bright Hopes Quilt Block.

First used partial seams on the quilt for my nephew. 

There are many tutorials and videos that you can pick up this technique from so give it a go!

I started making this HST Quilt in 2012 with left over 3.5" squares from my niece's quilt. So I started to build the quilt from the centre out. And for a long time I kept crawling on the floor, laying out the HST's and sewing them as I added more. Each time I worked on it I had to rearrange the HSTs so I could start where I left off. A couple of days ago I thought... I should just sew the rows together leaving enough room to add more HSTs to each row and sew the row together. I think this has made it easier for me to work on this quilt which means that there is actually progress on it! :)

So much easier to manage!

HST Quilt in Progress

I started working on this HST quilt a few months ago. I had some fabric left over from another project... 3.5" squares. So I made a bunch of HSTs. Been working with the fabric itself... and started in the centre... so this is taking some time... lots of time... anyway... will be good when its all done.

 

This was what I was planning when I first drew the design a couple of years ago! Needed to make a quick baby quilt for  a friend. I was going to use large blocks and make a little quilt. Never got done though. Now I'm making a large quilt with litte blocks. 

Pieced the top!

Went in to the store today and pieced the top. This is the size the class is doing. It's 45" x 63" - a nice lap size quilt. I'm going to make it into a twin for my niece. She loves blue and I hope this is blue enough for her. I think I might add a border with blue fabric - something from the squares - so it looks a little more blue than it is now. What do you think?

I love these fabrics. They are so bright and happy.
As I was piecing the top I felt so good just having the fabric on me... You know how you need to have the quilt top and quilt on your lap when you're sewing... isn't that such a great feeling. I had forgotten about that since I haven't sewn in 9 months.
Sigh... the simple pleasures of life! :)

And I love the Kona Snow for the back.
